Frequently asked questions.

How did you get into weddings?

I have always been interested in photography for as long as I can remember and I was constantly called upon to take the photos at family functions because I never went anywhere without a camera. Not knowing where to start and what my style of photography was I started working at Jessops. In my time there I learnt so much about photography in general as well as the technical side.  I also became great friends with a number of Wedding Photographers who then asked me to second shoot for them. I really enjoyed being part of something so special and the atmosphere of a wedding day. I spent a couple of years second shooting, then I started up for myself and I have loved every minute of it.

How do we book you James?

All you need to do is contact me with the date of your wedding; we can then meet up and have an informal chat about your wedding day. To book the date all I need is a booking fee.

How much is your booking fee?

I require a 30% booking fee to secure the date, and the rest payable 1 month before your wedding day.

What is your style of photography?

My style is a mixture of informal documentary and staged couple portraits.  I create a relaxed environment so you feel comfortable, which in turn helps me take more natural and beautiful photos of you.

Where are you based?

I'm based in Exeter Devon, but I can travel to locations around the South West including Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall. I have shot weddings in Axminster, River Cottage HQ, Shute, Exeter, Plymouth, Barnstaple and Sherborne to name a few.

Do you have a Contract?

Yes I do have a Contract. I find it helps both me and you know what is expected and provided.

Do you supply albums?

Yes I do, I have a large range of different styles please contact me for more details.

Where and when will the pre wedding/engagement shoot take place?

I normally ask if there is a place that has special meaning to you, somewhere that has good surroundings with not a lot of people. I recommend the Quay in Exeter or National Trust gardens which always look amazing and give a wonderful backdrop, but if you have a special place in mind I am happy to meet you there.

Do you provide video services as well?

No I don't.  I only provide services that I have a high level of experience in. I want to give you the best that I can produce.

Should I give you a shot list?

I always ask for a shot list for the day in general and especially the group photos, just to be sure that I don't miss a special detail that means a lot to you.

My fiancé is uncomfortable having his picture taken. How can you help him on the wedding day?

I try to make you both as relaxed as possible, to help me with this I organise a couple shoot and multiple meetings before your wedding day so that you get to know me better. This also gives you experience of me being around you with a camera.

How long will it take to get our images?

I try and get your images to you as soon as possible. Generally you are looking at 4-6 weeks.

Do I get all of the high- resolution edited photos?

I go through every photo editing each one individually, which I put onto a USB stick at full resolution. You can then use them with no restrictions.

Do you have Insurance?

Yes I have public liability and professional indemnity insurance, I can supply certificates upon request.

Finally … why is wedding photography so expensive?

I try to provide a great service with a high standard of images of your day at a reasonable price. I know there is a lot of variation in prices between wedding photographers; the main thing that this comes down to is the time they are willing to put into your wedding day. For me it starts when you book me.  I arrange informal meetings and couple shoots all to create a better bond between us. From the couple shoot you then get a framed picture for your guests to sign on your wedding day. Throughout the whole process I am available for a chat or meeting any time. I also like to visit the venue with you so we all have a better idea of what is going to happen on your wedding day. I also attend your rehearsal for the ceremony; this helps me know all the key details. For a general wedding day I am with you for about 12 hours. After the big day is when the real work starts,  reviewing all the images and editing each one individually which takes time and care. Once I have finished this I then meet with you to show you your images which are presented in a presentation pack.  And this does not include all the general tasks that I do just to keep up to date with the business.
